Sickness Policy for Children
When to send/stay home and Return to School

Cosmos Montessori must protect all children, parents, and staff from communicable diseases. Our sickness policy is in place to prevent the spread of illness to others, reduce the possibility of the recuperating child returning to school before the child is fully recovered from the illness, which in turn, could develop into a more serious illness, and prevent the spread of colds, flu, and diarrhea common of children in school settings.

Children should remain home and be sent home if the following occur:

  • Fever 99.9F or higher

  • Persistent cough or sore throat

  • Running Nose (Heavy colored nasal discharge)

  • Vomiting within the previous 24-hour period

  • Diarrhea within the previous 24-hour period (this will include recurring episodes of diarrhea at school (minimum of 2 episodes))

  • Red, watery, irritated eyes

  • Rash within the previous 24-hour period

  • Earache

  • Head Lice

  • Chills

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Stomachache

  • Tiredness

  • Headache

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Poor appetite

  • Behavior that is atypical of the child

Please read through the
CDC recommendations on how to observe COVID-19 symptoms in children.

As soon as we discover that your child exhibits one of these symptoms, you will be called to pick up your child within 30 minutes. We will immediately separate your child from the other children but continue to comfort them. The pick-up place will be at the entrance of the building.
Children sent home from school with any of the above symptoms may NOT return to school the following day. Children sent home with rashes will need a Doctor’s note to return to school.

When to Return if Tested Positive

Please use the CDC’s isolation calculator to determine a return date to the community. You add the date that you start symptoms, and it will tell you when you can leave home and travel. Children can return on the next date that the calculator says “do not travel through (DATE).” with negative PCR test results if they are not vaccinated.

Quarantine Period After Having Close Contact

We also use the calculator to determine a quarantine period. Please notify me as soon as you or your family members get in close contact. Each case is different, so please consult with us before the quarantine. Children are required to submit a negative PCR test result in order to return to the class.
